Vanessa Farmer B.Comm (Adel) LL.B. (Hons)

Managing Partner

Vanessa Farmer is the Managing Partner of Withnalls. Admitted to practice in 1999, she became a Principal of Withnalls in 2001.

She has a strong sense of social justice and specialises in Litigation.

Vanessa regularly appears as a counsel in the Supreme, Family and Local Courts.

She is a skilled, hard working advocate who takes pride in her work and who enjoys the challenge of complex litigation and successful outcomes on behalf of her clients.

Vanessa practices in the areas of Personal Injury Litigation (such as motor accident, work health claims), Family Law and De Facto Litigation, Wills and Estate Disputes and Business Sales and Leases.

Merran Short LL.B.


Merran was admitted in 1994, is an experienced and dedicated lawyer who practises in the following areas:

Civil and Commercial Litigation including appearing in the Supreme, Local and Federal Court – Bankruptcy/winding up proceedings and debt recovery, Advising on building contracts and disputes and contracts generally.

Insurance issues including liability under insurance policies – Commercial and Business transactions such as sales and purchases of businesses, leases.

Motor Accident Claims

Industrial Law

Wills and Probate including Estate disputes and all related matters

Liquor industry matters under the Liquor Act, the Gaming Act and the Private Security Act. Providing advice as required on Licensing and Regulation.

 Merran is a Past President of the Law Society of Northern Territory, Director of the Law Council of Australia, Treasurer and Founding Member of Australian Women Lawyers and President of NT Women Lawyers.


Amy Dargan joined Withnalls Lawyers in 2015 having previously worked at the Northern Territory Legal Aid Commission.

She was admitted to practice in the Northern Territory and High Court of Australia in 2015. Amy practices in Family Law (property and parenting proceedings, de facto relationships, divorce, child support, relocation and urgent recovery applications), Criminal Law, Domestic Violence and some Civil Litigation work.

Amy appears as an advocate in the Family, Supreme and Local Courts.

vicky eastwood

Victoria Eastwood (Vicky) joined the firm in 2014 having moved to Darwin from the UK the previous year. She was admitted to practice as a Solicitor in England and Wales in 2010 and undertook employment law work until her move to Australia. Vicky has undertaken studies at Charles Darwin University and was admitted to practice as a Solicitor in the Northern Territory in December 2016

 Vicky undertakes Family Law, some Civil Litigation and some Conveyancing work.  Vicky’s particular interest is in children’s issues.
